The Dr. Sheela Basrur and GE Oncology Nursing
Education Scholarship
2 x $2,500
Purpose:
-The Sheela Basrur Scholarships are intended solely for the purpose of
providing educational financial assistance to registered nurses enrolled in
graduate programs that are focused on the specialty of oncology. Registered
nurses must have evidence of or goals that reflect a strong commitment to
caring for persons living with cancer. These settings may include: cancer
prevention, screening programs, chemotherapy clinics, integrated cancer
programs, community nursing, hospitals and long term care facilities.
-The focus of interest may include: children or
adolescents with cancer, cancer in young adults, adults or the elderly. The
focus may be on a specific aspect of the cancer control continuum:
prevention, screening, treatment, supportive and psychosocial care,
palliative care, survivorship.
Eligibility:
-Applicants must be Ontario residents enrolled in or accepted for
enrolment into a university graduate program with a focus on oncology
-Registered nurses in the province of Ontario
and intending to practice in Ontario following completion of the program
Conditions:
-If a recipient leaves or fails to complete the program for which the
scholarship was granted, a letter of explanation will be required; the
funding may be required to be returned in full
-Funds must be used in the year awarded, and
cannot be deferred for any reason
-A written progress report must be submitted at
the end of the funded academic year to RNFOO
-Any publication (i.e. abstracts, posters,
articles) completed during the academic program and resulting from the
funding support, must acknowledge the sponsor: RNFOO
-Award monies are non-transferable and must be
used solely for the stated purpose
