2007 Annual Gala Fundraising Dinner Nurses Celebrating Nurses / Nurses Investing in Nurses

The annual Registered Nurses’ Foundation of
Ontario Fundraising Gala (RNFOO) is an eagerly anticipated event within the
nursing community. This year, the 35th anniversary of RNFOO, was no
exception. On the evening of May 2, 2007, a beaming President Dorothy
Ferguson led RNFOO Award and Scholarship recipients to the sound of bagpipes
into the capacity-filled dining room of the Liberty Grand as the brilliant
sunshine poured through the doors behind them. One of the highlights of this
superb evening was the bestowing of an honourary RNFOO life membership on
Dorothy Wylie in recognition of her contribution to nursing and her
assistance and leadership in advancing the RNFOO over the years. Dorothy is
a long-standing leader in the nursing community and is well-known by nurses
for her activities as a teacher, mentor, coach, and volunteer. Dorothy
currently lends her name and her advice to the Dorothy M. Wylie Nursing
Leadership Institute.
During the course of the evening, 41 recipients
of awards and scholarships were honoured for their continuing academic
achievements and ongoing research. A slide show of the recipients
highlighting their achievements was the background for Gala Chair Sue
Munro's superb commentary. More than 600 guests stood to applaud Dorothy as
she received her lifetime award.

Through its fund-raising activities, RNFOO has
made a major contribution toward developing leadership and role models for
the profession. As a result, nurses have gone on to become academic leaders,
advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners, as well as developing their
practice in many other specialized and dedicated areas, all of which have
contributed to the health of Ontarians.
Monies raised from all of the Gala activities
enable RNFOO to continue its mission of investing in nurses and investing in
nursing. RNFOO would like to thank all those who have given so generously of
their time and from their pockets to make this most recent event so
outstanding.
