What is the RBC
Foundation Internationally Educated Nurses Fund?
The Internationally Educated Nurses Fund is a
tuition support program funded by the Royal Bank of Canada Foundation. The
fund provides financial support for internationally educated nurses (IENs)
to meet the educational requirements to become a Registered Nurse in
Ontario. The objective of the fund is to allow new immigrants to Ontario to
be able to practice their chosen profession of nursing thus utilizing their
prior knowledge, experience and skills. It will assist in providing much-
needed human resources to the province so that the health care needs of the
citizens of Ontario can be met now and in the future.
Eligibility Criteria:
1. A letter from the College of Nurses of
Ontario confirming that the applicant's credentials had been reviewed and
that s/he would qualify as a RN in Ontario if the specified additional
educational requirements were met.
2. Proof that the applicant has been accepted to
and registered in a program offering the required educational components.
3. If reapplying for assistance for a second or
third semester etc., official documentation of successful completion of the
first or second semester’s program

All successful applicants (those receiving financial assistance) will be
required to report to RNFOO about their status of completion for those
courses which were funded.
5. The understanding that funding totaling over
$500 in each tax year is considered a taxable benefit.
To apply:
Applicants who have not previously been recipients of this RBC Foundation
Fund:
1. Complete all application criteria noted on the
application form

2. Attach:
a) letter from the College of Nurses of Ontario
b) proof of acceptance and registration in appropriate educational program
c) any documented evidence of work/education activities in Ontario (courses
taken, volunteer work, related letters of reference etc.).
3.
Submit a Letter of Intent (maximum of 1000 words) which includes:
a) your career goals
b) a summary of your previous experience
c) a description of how financial assistance would help you to succeed in
the program.
4. If you have already completed part of a
program, submit a Letter of Support from a member of the nursing faculty in
your program
5. Complete financial need form

Applicants who have previously been recipients of this RBC Foundation
Fund:
1. Complete all application criteria noted on the
application form

2. Provide proof of successful completion of
education program for which financial assistance was previously provided.
3. Attach:
d) letter from the College of Nurses of Ontario
e) proof of acceptance and registration in appropriate educational program
f) any documented evidence of work/education activities in Ontario (courses
taken, volunteer work, related letters of reference etc.).
4.
Submit a Letter of Support from a member of the nursing faculty in your
program.
5. Provide a letter of Intent which includes a
summary of your progress in becoming a Registered Nurse in Ontario and your
current career goals.
Funding
Successful applicants may receive up to $1000 a semester of financial
assistance towards their education to become a Registered Nurse in Ontario.
Applicants may reapply for funding for up to six semesters though they must
show proof of success for the previous semester for which they were funded.
Applications must be submitted by December 3, 2007 for the semester
starting in January.

If documentation regarding registration in the
program and/or proof of success for courses previously supported by the RBC
Fund is not available in time to meet the deadline for application, the
applicant should submit all other requirements. The applicant could then be
accepted for financial assistance which would be granted when the remaining
required documentation is received.
