| Jan Metcalfe Award (2 recipients – $1000.00) Angela De Guzman – Angela is pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing at McMaster University. She is one of three students admitted under Dr. Alba DiCenso’s Nursing Chair for Advanced Practice Nursing with the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (CHSRF) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). One of Angela’s educational goals involves discovering the barriers and facilitators to the integration of RNs in Extended Class (EC) roles in Ontario’s public health units. |

| Jan Metcalfe Award (2 recipients – $1000.00) Jennifer Menezes – Jennifer is completing her Master of Nursing (Clinical Nursing Field) at the University of Toronto. Jennifer is recognized for her leadership in establishing a multidisciplinary program of support for staff at the Wellesley Hospital Burn Unit. One of Jennifer’s long-term career goals involves “to assist in establishing and/or developing schools of nursing and primary health care systems in developing countries.” |

| Kathleen Howe Mitchell Scholarship ($4000.00) Karen Daley – Karen is enrolled in the Master of Science in Nursing program at the University of Ottawa, with a focus on psychiatric-mental health nursing. Her particular interest is in “building a body of knowledge in the area of power vs. engagement in the nurse patient relationship.” At the Royal Ottawa Hospital, Karen contributed to the © Tidal study which examined the impact of the implementation of the Tidal Model of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. |

| Margaret Avery Memorial Scholarship ($2000.00) Laura Kokocinski – Laura is completing a Doctorate in Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. Her “career goal is to conduct a research study to review the continuing education needs of health service executives” and in so doing, to contribute to the advancement and future development of nursing and health care leaders. Laura demonstrates strong, visionary leadership as Vice President of Services at Sioux Lookout Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre. |

| Isabel Black Scholarship ($2000.00) Laurie Clune – Laurie is completing her PhD-Nursing Science at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto and is an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing, Ryerson University. The aim of Laurie’s PhD research is “to deepen the understanding of disabilities in Ontario nursing programs...and to develop further research initiatives surrounding nurses with disabilities.” Laurie is recognized for her political action and policy development skills within her community, professional associations and municipal and provincial governments. |

| Jennifer Award (4 recipients – $4000.00) Lisa Simpson – Lisa is an undergraduate nursing student at the Ryerson site of the Ryerson, Centennial and George Brown Collaborative Nursing Degree Program. She has a strong interest in working with vulnerable populations such as underprivileged children and the mentally ill. Lisa is particularly committed to helping to ensure that these populations have a reasonable standard of living and access to health care. |

| Jennifer Award (4 recipients – $4000.00) Martina Panfili – Martina is pursuing her Bachelor of Nursing at the University of New Brunswick-Humber College Collaborative Program. Her career goals involve joining an assertive community treatment team and actively contributing to this practice area through research, patient advocacy and policy development. Martina is described by her clinical placement professor as a, “hard-working, enthusiastic student who has a great passion for nursing”. |

She has strong interest in political action in order to advocate for healthcare reform. Sarah’s goal is to pursue a career rich in research and clinical practice within the nursing specialties of oncology and organ transplantation. |

| Jennifer Award (4 recipients – $4000.00) Shauna-marie Young – Shauna is completing her BScN at the University of Victoria. She demonstrates her leadership and “commitment to deliver interdisciplinary care to the concurrently diagnosed client living with a substance use disorder.” Shauna is described by a colleague as a leader who integrates her course work with her clinical program and contributes to the health of both client and nursing communities. |
