The Mildred Grace Harbour Memorial Scholarship was established by her family in 2018, to recognize her lifelong devotion to her nursing career.

Honoree background

Mildred Grace Harbour (1927 to 2015) was born in Sandy Beach, Gaspé, Québec and completed her training to become a registered nurse at Sarnia General Hospital (now Bluewater Health) in Sarnia, ON in 1954. After a few years in Sarnia, Mildred moved to Toronto ON, where she had a long and dedicated career at several Toronto hospitals. Her longest-held positions were at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Hospital for Sick Children and Fudger House Long-Term Care Home, from which she retired in 1991. Her former colleagues remember her as an inspiration and true professional, and as caring deeply for her patients, for whom she would quietly go the “extra mile”. Mildred was a passionate life-long learner, and an exemplar of the nursing profession.
