Project Title: Evaluation of a Nurse Peer Mentorship Program (NPMP) in Long-Term Care

Organization: Perley Health

The crucial role mentoring plays in the development of nurses and nurse leadership is well known.  Not so well known is how the unique context of working in Long Term Care changes how mentorship is provided. The program pairs newly hired Registered Nurses (RNs) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) with experienced nurse mentors to support transition, integration, and role development in long-term care (LTC). Funding will allow the team to define emerging findings, challenges encountered, and next steps for sustaining and disseminating the program.

This project seeks to enhance Nurse Peer Mentorship Program (NPMP) at Perley Health and has the following objectives:

• Evaluate the effectiveness of the NPMP in supporting new nurses in LTC.
• Strengthen quality and sustainability of the program through mentor training and process improvement.
• Develop evaluation-informed resources and tools to support NPMP implementation in other LTC homes.
• Disseminate the outcome and impact of this project, through various avenues.
