Zahra Hakimi is a third-year nursing student at the University of Ottawa.  Zahra migrated to Canada two years ago following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan where she had served as a midwife for 16 years.  Zahra is eager to contribute to her new community as a registered nurse.
Zahra is passionately involved in teaching physiology online to Afghan students, and conducts research on equity in maternal and newborn care, all with the aim of improving services for Middle Eastern women in developed countries. Additionally, Zahra volunteers her expertise in neurophysiology to assist underserved female students in Afghanistan.
