Award Description
The Karin and Richard Doan Scholarship provides an opportunity to a student enrolled in a Nurse Practitioner Program at a recognized School of Nursing who has demonstrated commitment to mental health nursing.
Award Background
Karin and Richard Doan had long and varied careers in both the United States and Canada as an advanced practice nurse and a general and child psychiatrist. Both recognize that the area of mental health, and that of children and adolescents in particular, is the “poor stepchild” of the healthcare system. It is their belief that nursing should play a fundamental role in the provision and improvement of mental health services. They are happy to note that their eldest daughter is a nurse practitioner whose professional life focuses on child and adolescent mental health.
