In this second year of the Nurse Innovator Award, up to $62,000 was available to support innovations submitted through our application. With more than twice as many applicants this year, once again the selection of winners wasn’t easy.

The winners were announced at the Virtual Reception held on November 18, 2020, hosted by Mary Ito, of CBC.

We believe that each of this year’s winning projects will have positive impact on nursing and patients for years to come. With deep appreciation to the NIA Founding Donors, the Friends and Supporters, and other donors, we are proud to profile the 2020 RNFOO Nurse Innovator Award Winners.

We encourage you to take a few minutes to read the complete information about the winning projects. We are confident that you will be impressed and inspired. As noted by Zayna Khayat in her comments at our First NIA Reception, we believe that “The future of nursing is in good hands.”

Reception

Celebrate with the winners again, by watching the event here.

NIA Founding Donors, Friends & Supporters, Award Winners and other friends of RNFOO gathered virtually for the 2020 Nurse Innovator Award Reception on November 18.  The evening was a terrific success.  Host Mary Ito, Producer and Journalist with CBC, created an engaging tone.  The 2019 NIA winners shared updates on their progress, and the 2020 winners held viewers’ attention as they shared their passion for their projects. The lively Q&A session helped everyone better understand the crucial role that innovation plays in nursing.

Here are just a few of the attendee comments:

“The celebration was very well done. Having Mary Ito host it was brilliant. Her graciousness and sincerity were perfect for the event.”

“The winners all had interesting projects and the sharing of the info gave me a great understanding of the projects.”

“It was a great option given the pandemic. I continue to be amazed at the wonderful innovations we are supporting.”

Thanks are extended to everyone who helped to make the Reception happen.

Special mention goes to Cecktor Ltd, for organizing and operating the technology platform.

Connected Care On the Go

Connected Care on The Go! is a mobile solution that innovates to enable rapid delivery of scarce and specialized paediatric training supplies straight into the hands of remote learners. Home care nurses and children/families receive delivery of customized packages of resources needed to practice their skills while being coached virtually by a Connected Care Resource Nurse.

Wound Care Education

Our team is developing a comprehensive online wound care educational module for nurses and nursing students, featuring a series of virtual simulation games (VSGs) with embedded self-assessment, formative assessment, and an innovative virtual simulation quiz (VSQ) for summative assessment.
